Notifications ensure that you are not missing any important discussion in your DMs, channels, and spaces. As you start participating in more spaces and DMs, you might want to be a bit more selective about what you are receiving notifications for.

Silencing notifications for specific DMs or channels

‍

1. Select a DM or channel
2. Long press on that DM/channel and select "Silence notifications" or click on the bell icon in the upper-right corner

‍

Silencing notifications for specific channels/DMs will de-badge, prevent push notifications from coming through on your devices, and stop all "unviewed volley" emails for those particular channels/DMs.

‍

DMs and channels that have new volleys in the timeline will be bolded, so you can still stay up to date on your own time.

Silencing channel notifications for an entire space

‍

There are a few ways to silence channel notifications for an entire space.

‍

Navigate to the space you want to silence notifications for, and click the bell icon right next to the space name

Another option is to click on the gear icon in the bottom-left corner, select the space you'd like to silence channel notifications for, and toggle on "Silence channel notifications"

‍

Note: You will still be notified of DMs, @mentions, and volleys in threads you are following.

Email Notifications for "unviewed volleys"

‍

If you'd like to stop receiving "unviewed volley" emails for all DMs/channels, including those you have not silenced, follow these steps:

‍

1. Open any "Unviewed volley" email
2. Scroll to the bottom and click on "manage email preferences"
3. Select the Silence all "Unviewed volley..." email notifications toggle

‍

Important Note: If enabled you will not receive any “Unviewed volley…” emails. This includes notifications for unviewed volleys in your Direct Messages and any spaces you are a member of.

Alternatively, you can simply silence notifications for that particular channel/DM by toggling on the first option—When notifications are silenced you will not receive push notifications or email notifications for this DM.

To re-enable "Unviewed volley" email notifications:

‍

1. Search for an old "Unviewed volley" email (the subject line should include "Unviewed volley")
2. Scroll to the bottom and click on "manage email preferences"
3. Switch the Silence all "Unviewed volley..." email notifications toggle to the on position
